The 2002 Brickyard 400 weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will provide a full schedule of entertainment for thousands of NASCAR Winston Cup Series and True Value International Race of Champions fans that attend the annual event.

The legendary, 2.5-mile oval will play host to a brisk, exciting weekend. Action starts with NASCAR and IROC practice sessions on Friday, Aug. 2, followed by NASCAR qualifying, the 40-lap IROC at Indy race and more NASCAR practice on Saturday, Aug. 3, and the ninth running of the Brickyard 400 Winston Cup Series race at 1:30 p.m. (EST) on Sunday, Aug. 4.

The International Race of Champions (IROC) will kick off the weekend Aug. 2 with practice sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (EST), plus a final practice at 4:05 p.m.

Jeff Gordon, the defending Brickyard 400 winner, and the rest of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series stars will take to the track for a two-hour practice from 2-4 p.m.

NASCAR qualifying gets underway at 10:05 a.m. Aug. 3, followed by the IROC at Indy race at 1 p.m. Two NASCAR practice sessions follow at 2 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

The 2002 IROC at Indy lineup is arguably one of the most competitive in the series 26-year history. The series organizers annually invite 12 of the world's top drivers to compete against one another in equally prepared stock cars.

Although NASCAR stars Tony Stewart, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Sterling Marlin, Kevin Harvick and Jack Sprague will be on some turf-driving IROC stock cars, the open-wheel racing contingent will be represented by the largest group of Indy Racing League drivers in IROC history. The IRL drivers include Indianapolis 500 winners Helio Castroneves, Buddy Lazier and Al Unser Jr., and former series champions Scott Sharp and Sam Hornish Jr.

Danny Lasoski, the defending World of Outlaws series champion, also will compete in IROC at Indy, making his debut at the Speedway.
